India-Pakistan Toss Drama: Why Suryakumar Yadav and Salman Aga Didn’t Shake Hands (Image Source: Social Media)
Sports News: The India-Pakistan match on September 14 made headlines, not just for the cricket, but because the players did not shake hands before the game. Initially, PCB blamed match referee Andy Pycroft for stopping the handshake. However, new reports reveal that Pycroft was not at fault. He was simply following instructions from the Asian Cricket Council, which had directed that the captains of both teams should not shake hands at the toss.
According to the media report, a day after the India-Pakistan match, on September 15, PCB emailed the ICC, alleging that the match referee did not follow the code of conduct during the toss. The ICC immediately investigated the matter and then responded to PCB via email that Pycroft had performed his duties well and had not violated the code of conduct. The email also stated that he was following the instructions received from the ACC regarding not shaking hands at the toss.
Interestingly, the chairman of the ACC is PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi himself. So if the ACC gave this order, it directly falls under Mohsin Naqvi’s responsibility. The report claims that in the email, ICC praised Pycroft, stating that he handled the situation well and ensured that no awkward situation occurred on television.
